Neko Case, k.d. lang and Laura Veirs have joined folk rock forces–not unlike Voltron–to make a hauntingly beautiful single for their new supergroup. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THIS IS A SUPERGROUP. It’s a supergroup. A transcendental female folk-rock supergroup.
The full album is due in June from ANTI- Records. The single, “Atomic Number,” is here for us to listen to on repeat until then. It’s lovely:
I’m a big fan of all three of these women, and if this song is any indication, producer Tucker Martine will serve up another gem of a record. The last one I heard that was produced by this guy was Introducing Karl Blau, a country-soul record of a honey-voiced Pacific-Northwestern cowboy. (Pre-order Introducing Karl Blau, too, it’s awesome. It’s available this May. I got it early ’cause I helped fund the Kickstarter that launched it and it’s been so, so worth it.)
I’m pretty confident Martine is going to play to case/lang/veirs’ strengths, too, and then wrap it all up like a spectral burrito for our ears. I’m excited like a bunny rabbit at Whole Foods.
When was the last time we had a supergroup this awesome? It’s been a while.
Anyway, if you like the track, please share it with all your favorite friends and family on all the internets you can. It would be much appreciated, I’m sure.
